Women Executives to Speak at UMD’s Smith School

MBA Blog / 16th March 2017

Two influential women in the finance industry will speak 6 p.m. March 27, 2017, at a women’s conference hosted by the Ed Snider Center for Enterprise and Markets at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. The Women’s History Month event, “Women, Leadership & the Workplace: A New Playbook for Success,” is part of the NewDay Leadership Forum sponsored by NewDay USA.

The speakers, Sallie Krawcheck and Regina Lowrie, will discuss what Krawcheck calls a new playbook for women to take leadership in the corporate boardroom.

Krawcheck, author of the recently published “Own It: The Power of Women at Work,” was a financial executive on Wall Street at a young age. She has served as chairman and CEO of Sanford C. Bernstein, chief financial officer of Citigroup, and wealth management chief of Bank of America. She is also co-founder and CEO of Ellevest, a digital investment platform for women.

Lowrie, the first women chair of the Mortgage Bankers Association, is president and CEO of RML Advisors, a financial service advising and consulting firm. She also serves on the NewDay USA Board of Advisors. Previously she served as CEO of Gateway Funding, a company she founded in 1994. She has also served as president of Vision Mortgage Capital, a division of Continental Bank.

Other topics at the forum will include career strategies, fostering a productive work environment, and what women should know about building long-term financial security. The speakers will also respond to audience questions.

“Both women have risen to the top of a male-dominated industry and have insight on challenges and opportunities facing women in business,” says Smith School professor Rajshree Agarwal, director of the Snider Center.

The free event will be at the University of Maryland’s Riggs Alumni Center. To learn more and to register, visit the forum’s information page.
