During COVID, MIT Sloan and Darden suspended standardised testing requirements and broadened their evaluation criteria. Neither saw a decline in cohort quality. The data had been pointing in this direction for some time: a 2019 GMAC validity study found that undergraduate GPA predicts MBA outcomes nearly as effectively as GMAT scores, and ETS research has shown that test performance correlates as much with coaching spend as with genuine capability.
