PickUp USA Fitness Starts Southern California Expansion
PickUp USA Fitness, based in Irwindale, CA, recently announced the long-awaited arrival of their franchise program. PickUp USA, founded in 2011, is a basketball-focused fitness club that offers traditional gym amenities, like weight rooms and cardio rooms, and also offers specialized services for basketball enthusiasts. These basketball services include group and private basketball training, as well as the company’s main attraction – pickup basketball with referees. The company has been planning its expansion for several years, and just announced the launch of their franchise program.
“It’s been quite a journey,” says PickUp USA President and Founder, Jordan Meinster. “We opened our first club in Irwindale several years back. Our goal was to create a gym that provided an unmatched basketball experience for our members, while also providing amenities that you would find at traditional fitness clubs, like weight and cardio equipment. We’ve always put the customers first, and they’ve helped us grow our concept into what it is today.”
PickUp USA officially launched its franchise program this past Monday, and is offering franchise opportunities in Southern California. “We’ve built a good model,” says Meinster, “and we’re ready to expand to multiple locations. The fitness industry is really taking off right now, and we provide a very unique service for the millions of consumers that choose basketball as their preferred recreational activity. Our Irwindale club has come so far from our humble beginnings, and we’re excited to bring our concept to new markets in Southern California.”
Boutique fitness clubs are a rapidly growing portion of the gym industry. According to Catterton Private Equity Group, boutique fitness is a fast growing industry valued at between $6 billion and $7 billion today, and is expected to more than double by 2020. Specialized, discipline-specific gyms, like PickUp USA, are attractive to consumers that are looking for a more personalized experience than they will find at a big box gym, and industry data shows that these consumers are willing to pay a premium for a membership when they find a fitness club that caters to their specific interests. “The gym industry is definitely moving towards specialization and segmentation. You have to provide a strong offering to your targeted customer base. Our customers are the basketball enthusiasts, and we provide the best basketball experience in town. It’s a huge, huge opportunity for us,” says Meinster.
