Challenges Facing the New Administration – Commentary Available from Columbia Business School Professors

From governance and ethics to leadership style and potential conflict of interests, Columbia Business School professors are available to discuss the challenges facing the new presidential administration.

Family Business

Patricia M. Angus JD is an expert and recognized thought leader in multi-generational family governance and wealth. She has advised families with businesses, trusts, and charitable foundations for more than two decades. She is also the founding director of Columbia Business School’s Family Business Program. Professor Angus can offer her expert commentary about:

Challenges inherent in transferring management of the day-to-day family business while still retaining ownership;

Ethics

Bruce Kogut is an expert on ethical business practices. His current research focuses on governance and corporate compensation. He has written numerous books, is on both corporate and academic boards in Europe, Russia and India, and has been the director of the Sanford C. Bernstein Center on Leadership and Ethics at Columbia Business School since 2007. Professor Kogut can offer expert commentary about:

His belief that the President’s business entities in foreign markets should be sold and liquidated to meet long held ethical standards;
Assertions that conflict of interest laws do not apply to the President and Vice-President; and,
The balance between legal and ethical.

Corporate Governance

William Klepper is an expert on executive leadership, strategic leadership and corporate governance. His most recent book, The CEO’s Boss: Tough Love in the Boardroom, was ranked one of the top five books by the Wall Street Journal in 2010. He has worked with a large number of corporations creating custom leadership programs and been teaching at Columbia Business School since 1996. Professor Klepper can offer expert commentary about:

Potential costs of speaking up against the administration policies;
How and when companies can get involved in political commentary; and,
The responsibilities that companies have to their social contracts and consumers.

Leadership

Adam Galinsky is an expert on negotiations, decision-making, and how power affects performance. He has published more than 200 scientific papers and authored several books on these topics. He is currently the Vikram S. Pandit Professor of Business and Chair of the Management Division at Columbia Business School. His recent TEDx talk on power and speaking up for yourself has more than two million views. Professor Galinsky can offer expert commentary on:

How leaders react when they have power without status (i.e. respect and admiration granted by others);
What to expect if the power/status tension is not resolved; and,
How leaders can build trust or repair trust if it has been broken.
