HEC Montréal launches Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) to help world-class tech startups grow and flourish

Entrepreneurs / 18th May 2017
HEC Montréal is proud to announce its partnership with the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto to create the CDL-Montreal. The Creative Destruction Lab is the world’s premier seed-stage program for massively scalable, science-based companies. This unique program now spans across Canada, with locations at the UBC Sauder School of Business, Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary, Rowe School of Business at Dalhousie University, and HEC Montréal.

CDL-Montreal will use the methodology established by the Creative Destruction Lab at Rotman, which employs an objectives-based mentoring process led by highly accomplished entrepreneurs and angel investors. The goal of this specialized program is to maximize equity value creation for technology-based startups. CDL-Montreal will run a program with a focus on data science. Those accepted will benefit from a collaboration with Montreal’s Institute for Data Valorization (IVADO), an institute with cutting-edge and world renowned expertise in data science, operational research, and artificial intelligence.

“This innovative and unique program will create growth and economic value in Montreal and Canada and will contribute to develop major world players in the technology sector,” said Michel Patry, Director, HEC Montréal.
CDL is committed to develop a national approach that leverages the very best entrepreneurial business judgment of highly successful Canadian entrepreneurs with massively scalable technology based ventures,” says Hélène Desmarais, Chair of the Board of Directors of HEC Montréal. “We have every reason to believe in our capacity to create new industrial and technological giants that could be to AI what Apple was to computers and Research in Motion (RIM) or Nokia to portable devices.”

HEC Montréal is a leading business school in entrepreneurship and has been at the forefront of data science research for the last 40 years. Rooted in a multilingual and multicultural environment, it extends its networks of collaboration and influence across borders and acts as a leader among business schools across the globe, thus opening a world of opportunities for CDL Montreal entrepreneurs.

The first cohort will start the program in December 2017.
